Dos desplomes marcan los límites imaginarios del otoño posmoderno. En julio de 1972 el complejo residencial «lecorbusiano» de Pruitt-Igoe, construido en Saint-Louis por el arquitecto Minoru Yamasaki, se hace estallar a petición de sus habitantes. Casi treinta años después el derrumbe de las Twin Towers, fatalmente del mismo Yamasaki, plantea un nuevo momento de ruptura histórica. Hoy el destino del mundo parece oscilar entre una distopía catastrófica en marcha, llevada a cabo por filósofos, urbanistas, novelistas y cineastas y un melancólico refugio en distintas heterotopías urbanas. No-lugares, banlieues, terrain vagues, new towns, solares abandonados, ciudades efímeras: ¿es aún posible contagiar el espacio desde el vacío o ya no hay salida del totalitarismo espectacular contemporáneo?
